Should we be wearing Miniskirts over 40?
Hmmmmm.....

There are plenty of online articles (and opinionated people) that will tell you NO!
"Cover your knees."
"You're too old to have your legs out."
"Mini skirts are cheap and vulgar."
"You look like a desperate old slapper in that!!"

Luckily, I am just as strongly opinionated as the critics and (for me) age has NOTHING to do with whether or not you look good in a mini hemline.
Age is an irrelevance.

The only thing that matters is if you feel good wearing one.
Feeling good means looking good.
Anyone else's opinion doesn't matter a jot!

The 4 C's you need before you Wear a Mini Skirt

1. Confidence

If you don't feel happy and confident in your miniskirt (or minidress) step away.
Confidence is key.
If you feel awkward you will look awkward.
If you are pulling and tugging at the hem self consciously then forget about it!
There are plenty of other great styles to choose from.

2. Camouflage

If your legs are on the heavy side, have marks, discolouration, spider veins or a deathly blueish tinge (like mine) you may want to invest in some good hosiery.
{Don't even think about putting cheap tights on with your mini.... even perfect pins look bad in cheap tights.}

Spend as much as you can afford to get a good quality pair.
The difference is amazing.
Even opaque support tights are indistinguishable from regular tights nowadays.... long gone are those wrinkly granny tights.
Support tights might sound scary but they are perfect for any vein issues you may have, or if you suffer from tired and achy legs.

Be aware that patterned (and lacy) tights can visibly thicken the legs, great for me not so good if your legs are more athletic in shape.
If in doubt stick to block colours.... black is not always best, and there are some beautiful coloured tights out there to float your boat!

In warm weather why not go bare!?
All you need is de-fuzzing, a little lotion and some TLC before heading out in that mini skirt.

Use every means at your disposal to fake those gorgeous pins!

3. Care less (about knees)

Forget about the state of your (imperfect) knees.

Many people will tell you to cover your knees as you get older.
"Knees are ugly and wrinkly!"
Who really cares about your knees apart from you?
No one.
Knees are never pretty, even on the beautiful people.

I've had seriously knobbly ones all of my life but I'm not going to let them stop me enjoying wearing a shorter hemline.
Get your knees out if you want to!

4. Chill Out

If you're feeling too exposed and a bit too "sexy" in your mini, you may want to tone things down a little.
Try flat shoes (or boots) and a loose fitting top to add a carefree and casual vibe.

Having said that, if you want to wear a fitted top and high heels then bloody well go for it!
It's your life, and your body to dress how you please.

Today I paired this funky little mini skirt with a chunky knit (see this jumper in an all-pink look HERE), opaque tights and chunky ankle boots.

There is plenty of colour (and pattern) within this look so I kept my accessories to a minimum.
Earrings and lipstick.
Simple.

Do you love a mini hemline?
Are you getting your legs out regardless of age?

If not, what's stopping you?
Body confidence?
Peer and social pressures?
