How to style a Summer Jumpsuit in Autumn, over 40.

How can you style that light summer jumpsuit as the weather changes?
The obvious answer (for me) is to add layers!

Scottish weather usually means that layers are never very far away!
As the late-summer weather becomes even more unpredictable, they become essential.

I know layering can be daunting.
The layers you add to an outfit can easily become sloppy, and bulky-looking.

But, layering doesn't need to add bulk (and chunkiness) to your look.

3 Steps to perfect Layering

  1. Keep your 'under-layers' very fine, and lightweight.
  2. Stick to a maximum of three layers (if you are unsure).
  3. Only ever add chunkiness to the very top layer.
Easy.

So, today layers were the order of the day.
Underlayers and overlayers.
Plus, cardigans are cool again!
(I knew if I waited long enough...)

This floral jumpsuit is undeniably a Summer item.
It is well made, partially lined and has handy pockets (I love a pocket).
However, it is also far too low-cut!
I wore it with a camisole and flip flops a few weeks ago, and today I popped on a long-sleeved thermal.
{Hat's off to the woman who dares to wear this plunging neckline!}

I chose to add a fine-weight cardigan, but a chunky one would look just a good as the weather cools down even further.

A teeny bag was out of the question today as I had a tonne of "stuff' to lug around.
Luckily, this structured bag is the perfect size... and is so much fun to carry!

Adding some turquoise jewellery pulled things together nicely.

4 Simple ways to transition a Summer jumpsuit.

1.  Accessorise.

Summer jumpsuits tend to be in "summery" patterns, and colours, which are quite hard to style in the cooler months.
You could try pulling out darker tones from the pattern (if yours has a pattern), or add more autumnal colours using:
  • A belt (skinny or wide, whatever you prefer).
  • A scarf.
  • Layers (see below).
  • Shoes...ankle boots look great!

2.  Add a lightweight base-layer.

3.  Add a topper.

4. Secret layers (for when it gets really cold).

WARNING:

Going to the loo in a jumpsuit is hard enough.
Make sure your layers and accessories are easily removable and give yourself plenty of time to disrobe!
{In this outfit I had to hang every item I was wearing (apart from my undies) on the peg... so funny!}
