D.I.Y. Halloween costume and makeup.
Simple face paint substitute for sensitive skin.This is the second of my Halloween posts for sensitive skin.
If you have read my 'Ghost post' you will know that my children can't wear face paint.
This Cat costume is not quite as scary as the ghost, but just as much fun!
In fact, it has a twirling skirt for dancing.... we always have a party trick when we go guising. (click for a definition)
Halloween fun, Part 2:
The Witch's Cat.
You will need:
- A headband.
- Black stiff fabric (I used faux leather)...for the ears.
- An old long sleeved black top (This is a velvet leotard).
- Pink paint.
- White paint.
- Black gloves.
- Black leggings.
- Dance skirt (optional extra)
- Thick white ribbon.
- Cardboard...to make the name tag.
- A length of feather trim (for the tail)
- I started with the ears, cutting a diamond shape out of thick fabric, folding it in half around an old headband, and gluing them in place.
- I painted a pink 'belly' onto the leotard using a sponge.
- Using the same paint, paint the paws (gloves) on the palm area and the inside of the ears.
- Add white claws to the gloves (using white paint)....pointed false nails could glue on for an adult version.
- I sewed a feather 'tail' to a circular dance skirt...you could sew(or pin) the tail directly onto the leggings.
- The bow and name tag are optional and are just a large grosgrain bow and a cardboard 'tag'
- Add black boots, and some attitude, and you are ready to go!
The make up is easy too,
You will need:
- Brown eyeshadow
- Black kohl pencil.
- Pink cream blusher (a lipstick will work)
- Pale face powder (talc works too!)
- Press the powder onto the lower part of the face.
- Sponge or brush the brown eyeshadow all over the forehead and across the eyes.
- Paint the nose pink with the blusher or lipstick.
- Draw in flicked eyebrows.
- Draw down the side of the nose and the centre of the lip.
- Add your whiskers.
The great thing about these looks is that it takes only a few minutes to do. Perfect for wriggly and impatient children (or, in my case, a queue!)...or, if you are doing it on yourself...out of the door and off to the party in a flash.
